About Us

Since its launch in 2018, Lagos Fringe has grown remarkably in the number of performances, participants, and audience engagement local and internationally, becoming one of the largest outdoor festivals in West Africa. Held annually in November. Over the last 7 years, Lagos Fringe has Impacted - over 5,000 young creatives, Produced - 500 + projects and events Entertained, 21,000+ people, Hosted 50+ international guests and employing over 70 personnel each year. The Lagos Fringe hashtag has achieved over 85 million impressions on social media, and our content has reached over 12 million people through print, radio, and television.

The festival features a rich array of activities, including panel discussions, training sessions, focus groups, virtual conferences, and digital exhibitions. These events culminate in presentations of theatre shows, music, poetry, visual arts, installations, and film screenings.

Founding and Leadership

Kenneth Uphopho is an artistic director, writer Arts manager and Talent manager, He is a three - time recipient of the global fellowship for the International society of the performing Acts (ISPA), New York, and a Salzburg Global fellow Austria. He is also the founding director of Abuja Fringe and Lagos Fringe, with a vision to make Nigeria the cultural of sub-Saharan Africa. Kenneth’s extensive experience includes serving as the Festival director for the British council Lagos theatre festival from 2014 - 2018, where he significantly expanded the Festival’s scope and impact. His leadership has been instrumental in promoting better program management, mentorship, funding and skills development across the industry.

Program Methods and Design

Venues are allocated to presenting companies who apply to participate in the festival, with technical and marketing support provided at no extra cost. A program of events is presented to the public well in advance, ensuring broad visibility and engagement.

Participating companies have the opportunity to undergo skills development training before the festival, facilitated by established producers, directors, festival managers, and entrepreneurs. These trainings aim to enhance the quality of work presented and support the professional growth of the presenters.
